An update

"Wizard of Oz"
Our middle and high school drama class performed for us last week.  With a few changes... Instead of Kansas, Dorthea lived in Guatemala with her Uncle Hector and Aunt Emilia.  She wound up in Oz because of an earthquake, where she quickly came into possession of ruby-red flip-flops.  And Toto had a Tuk-Tuk!

1st grade friends!

Cayalá

Some of the teachers visited this place in the city.  An up-scale shopping area, well guarded and all decked out for Christmas!  I felt like it should have been about 40 degrees colder, though!

Dia de los Muertos weekend and a Special Birthday

Just driving to school.

Dia de los Muertos

This year I visited the Antigua cemetery.  (on a side note: Have I been saying this word wrong my whole life?  Spell check keeps taking out the "n" I want to put in "cemetery".)

The Antigua cemetery is unusual in that it is all white.

This makes the decorations and flowers put out for Dia de los Muertos really pop.

We also went to Santiago, another town where they have a large kite festival.

Someone has their eyes closed in each of these pictures...and neither of them are me!

Visiting Finca Filadelfia

Coffee Farm
Two of my favorite things here:  coffee and fried plantains :)

An out-of-season procession and alfombra:

Feliz Cumpleanos, Ruth!!
A traditional Mariachi band

Mmmm... delicious food.  Barbequed chicken, rice, veggies, frijoles, blue tortillas (I wasn't too excited to try these, but they are actually better than regular tortillas!)
The guests.  Thanks for *trying* to move the soda bottle out of my way, Rumi :)
