Google

For all my foreign-traveling followers out there who are trying to access Google US, but keep getting automatically re-directed to their current country's version, here is the link you need:
google.com/ncr

I forget what "ncr" stands for, but if you're especially curious I'm sure you can Google it :)  [USA-style, of course]

...Weekend, cont...

And some pictures of the city.  Antigua is really a beautiful, old city.  Full of colors and with cobblestone streets.

Weekend cont.

I'm sorry, but I can't figure out how to put the pictures where I want them. If anyone knows how, please let me know.

These are from El Monasterio y Templo de la Recolección. It was an amazing place and for anyone who comes to visit me, we will definitely see this :)

Weekend

This weekend I have been "playing tourist".  I figured while I'm still downtown in a hostel and have some time before school starts, this is the right time for seeing some of the sights.

Here come the pictures!  In Antigua there are many old churches.  I believe they were destroyed in an earthquake decades ago and make beautiful ruins.  Here are some that I have toured:
If you click on the pictures, they will show larger.

San Jerónimo
El Carmen:  That guy standing there told me the heads of the
statues were shot off, not the result of the earthquake ??

Hola a todos!

I can't promise that this will be interesting or that I will update often, but I think it is the best way to keep in touch with everyone. Especially since not everybody is on Facebook and I don't want to fill up your email Inbox with lots of pictures!

Anyways...
I made it to Guatemala! And have managed to keep myself alive for three days, so that is promising.

Thursday was a long day. My connections went fine and all my bags made it as well (which some of you know does not happen often for me.) The husband of the school's director picked me up and brought along their 5 year old son, who will be one of my Kindergartners.  He was super sweet and wanted to sit next to me in the van :)  If all my students are like him we will have a wonderful year!

At the school I met the director and she gave me a tour around.  The school is very bright and cheery.  I found out I currently will be having 25 students and the size of my room may present some challenges with that.  (more about the school another day...)

The whole family then drove me to Antigua (about 45 minute drive.)  We went to look at a guesthouse as a possible place for me to live.  The director wanted to see it as well, to be able to recommend it more in the future.

I finally made it to my hostel.  I was exhausted!
